TitleFrankston flood, 1934AcknowledgementDonated by Bruce PetrieDescriptionThis historic storm system began on Thursday 29 November 1934 and lasted until Saturday 1 December 1934. Rain gauges in the Frankston/Carrum area recorded 8 inches of rain (approx. 203mm ) falling in the 33 hour period. The storm resulted in severe damage to the foreshore and pier and severe erosion along the Frankston cliffs. This event took place before the building of the Patterson River and Eumemmerring Creek levee systems so the catchment area was overwhelmed. Flash flooding occurred in low lying residential streets and properties in the town centre. Station Street, Balmoral Street and Rossmith Avenue were all affected. Bruce Petrie recalls that Frankston was about 2 meters under water. His family lived at 9 Balmoral Street and owned the land bounded by Clyde St, Station St, Ross Smith Avenue and Masons Paddock.
