DESCRIPTION

Title Intersection Nepean Highway and Station Street, approx. 1963AcknowledgementDonated by George BiddulphDescriptionPhoto taken at the intersection of Nepean Highway and Station Street, Seaford in the mid-1960s. A Marshalite traffic signal is visible in the foreground. Designed in Melbourne by Charles Marshall during the 1930s, Marshalite signals used a rotating pointer on a clock-like dial to indicate stop, caution and go phases for motorists. These signals were installed at numerous Melbourne intersections from the late 1930s and remained in use along parts of the Nepean Highway until the 1970s. In this photograph, the signal is used in conjunction with a conventional traffic light.
Arthur's Milk Bar and A. L. Lyster Estate Agent are also visible.
