BiographyIn 1837 Captain Benjamin Baxter arrived from County Cork, Ireland to the area now known as Frankston, Victoria.
In 1838 he was granted a pastoral lease of 15,000 acres in the Langwarrin area and established the cattle station known as Carrup Carrup. Baxter appointed John Sage as an overseer of Carrup Carrup. John later married Benjamin’s daughter Maria and the pair built their home known as Sages Cottage.
Captain Baxter's gravestone, found in the Frankston Cemetery, reads "Benjamin Baxter, late of h. m. 50th regiment. Died at Currup Currup 15 May 1892, aged 87. Also Martha, beloved wife of above 31 January 1906 age 94 years".
